Director of Corporate Relations, Cross Insurance

Vice President of the Maine Chapter - CFMA

Michelle joined Cross Insurance–Augusta as President/Branch Manager in December 2002. In 2017 she assumed the executive role of Director of Corporate Relations. She has over 30 years of surety and commercial insurance experience having started her career immediately following college as a surety bond underwriter at both USF&G and Aetna Bond (acquired by Travelers). Michelle holds numerous professional insurance and surety designations.

In 2017 Michelle designed and launched the Emerging Risk Manager’s Summer Internship Program for Cross Insurance which has introduced 18 college students, over the past four summers, to various career path options within the insurance industry. The students gain knowledge in commercial insurance, personal insurance, surety bonding, employee benefits, claims and risk management by way of job shadowing, client visits, job site tours, insurance & surety company visits, underwriting exercises and industry training guides.

Michelle was introduced to CFMA shortly after the Maine Chapter was formed. In 1988 when she returned to Maine to work at Aetna Bond, her manager encouraged her to become active in CFMA and other construction associations in Maine. She started helping out at CFMA in those early years with planning events and contacting prospective members. In 2014 Michelle was asked to become a board member of the Maine Chapter. Before she officially started that role the Chapter Secretary resigned and she instead was nominated as Secretary, a position she has held twice from 2014 – 2016 and again from 2018 – 2020.  During her break as Secretary, Michelle remained on the board as a Director from 2016 – 2018.

Michelle represents Cross Insurance on other construction association boards as well including:  MBTA, ABC Maine and AGC Maine Education Foundation. She is also past Chairwoman of the Maine Independent Insurance Agents Association.
