Waking Up Work

Sep 22, 2021 - 11:30 AM (CT) - DoubleTree by Hilton Minneapolis – Park Place
Hosted by Twin Cities, Minneapolis, MN

About this Event

Please join us on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 to hear in-house attorney and author, Timothy Velner, discuss how we all can reduce risks, flesh out the UNKNOWN unknowns, and foster mindfulness in the workplace. Timothy will share anecdotally and scientifically how 90% of us sleepwalk through life making decisions based on our personal and cultural defaults. We are hard-wired to join up and sleepwalk. Sleepwalking leads to blind adherence and missing unknowns that often lie right in front of our eyes. He will share various awareness tools to help improve company culture, identify personal and company defaults that lead to sleepwalking, and allow companies to implement action to better identify risk. As an added bonus he will share a fun “caught on camera” image of how the news networks play upon and monetize our propensity to sleepwalk.

You can purchase his book (Waking Up Work – Using Mindfulness to Uncover the Unknowns and Mitigate Risk) at Amazon.com or through his website - https://wakingupwork.com/.

Click here to read the article he recently wrote regarding rethinking the way we look at diversity and inclusion, which he will discuss on at our September 15th meeting.

Featured Speakers

Timothy R. Velner has been an attorney for over twenty-five years managing transactions, litigation and disputes at various law firms, companies and clinics ranging from a division of the largest privately held corporation in the United States to the Legal Aid Society. In late 1990s he took a brief hiatus to study religion and spirituality at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. Through this unique experience and his capacity to see first-hand when things go wrong, he has distilled commonality to risk and how it can be mitigated through awareness. He combines his knowledge of law and spirituality with anecdotal life experiences, social psychology and philosophy to provide the reader twenty-six practical tools to flesh out unknowns, mitigate risk and do the right thing.
